It's a bad day when...the parts supplier's dealership management software goes down. CDK Global, a leading retail automotive software-as-a-service provider including cyber-security solutions, has shut down most systems to contain problems as it works to address issues and restore service. Post-Covid, hackers are increasingly targeting trucking and logistics companies because they understand how tightly integrated the industry has become. They know that many mid-enterprise and smaller businesses are connected to large supply chains, and have relatively less protection against #cybercrime.Buyers are also shifting more transactions to mobile environments, requiring dealerships to expand online sales and service offerings. While not directly affected, it restricts the sales and service of parts and supplies that are sourced from affected CDK customers.CDK Global is currently assessing the overall impact and does not have an ETA as to when their systems will be back up and running.#cybersecurity #commercialtrucking

Big Tech is working hard to sell (and convince investors) of the transformative power of #artificialintelligence to solve the world's biggest challenges, including #globalwarming. It's a #technologicalbluff because data centres and the computing power required for large language models is immense. The transportation industry is heavily taxed to reduce emissions but AI represents a dramatic increase in energy usage.Google's AI overview uses 10x the amount of power as traditional Google search. Adding AI snapshot answers to all Google searches would equate to the same electricity used to power all of Ireland.Using AI to generate a single image consumes as much energy as fully charging a smartphone. The global data centres that power AI platforms account for 2.5% - 3.7% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, which surpasses the aviation sector.AI's water usage is projected to hit 6.6 Billion cubic meters by 2027. In 2018, before AI development ramped up, Google alone was using 15.8 billion litres of water to cool its data centres. The Electric Power Research Institute predicts that AI will use ~ 9.1% of U.S. energy by 2030.Some pessimistic projects suggests AI is on track to monopolize half the world's energy production by 2040.The exorbitant amounts of energy consumed by AI servers, expected to grow exponentially, dictates they be accountable for their environmental impact. Taxing all GHG emission creators, not just fossil fuel consumers, is a fair way to reflect the climate impact of digital technologies.

We're stuck #bandaids over all other trusted brands...For third year in a row, Band-aid was chosen the top trusted brand, according to business intelligence company, Morning Consult's 2024 reports. Including more brands, 118 total from 14 categories, with new entrants like ChatGPT & Spotify. Among all US adults, rounding out the top-ten spots are: UPS, Google, Lysol, Dove, Amazon, Colgate, Kleenex, Home Depot and USPS.The most-trusted brands came from just four industry of personal and household products, food, retail, shipping and logistics companies. Google and Amazon were the only two brands in the top 25 considered digital first of tech brands. YouTube was the most trusted social media brand with Meta and X finishing near the bottom.Other generation-specific highlights:CVS Pharmacy, Spotify, Target, Vaseline and PlayStation were unique to the most-trusted brands among Gen Z adults.Costco, M & Ms, and Doritos were only in the top 15 among millennials.Lowe’s, Energizer and General Mills only appeared on the list for Gen X.#babyboomers had the most unique list of brands that included Ace Hardware, Campbell Soup, Betty Crocker, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Heinz Ketchup. In times of economic turmoil, #brandtrust can convince customers to spend more money. Surveys repeatedly conclude that one in three people are willing to choose a more expensive product if there’s perceived higher quality.

Agree to these "employment" terms?‘Welcome to my fleet. I want you to become a corporation known as a PSB, take on the legal responsibility of a corporation and pay more taxes than you would as an employee. Also, all the protections and compensation benefits afforded to you under the Canada Labour Code – overtime pay, vacation pay, paid sick days, Canada Pension, Unemployment Insurance, work protections, etc. – are also gone once you sign on to the PSB program. With that, welcome to the underground economy. If the feds don’t catch you, you’re golden; if they do, you’re on your own and good luck facing tens of thousands of dollars in fines and/or back pay and perhaps even jail time for gross violations.’ But it's what drivers who sign onto Driver Inc. or agree to become a Personal Service Business (PSB).#knowthetruth #saferroads #stoptaxevasion
